EXTREME Couponing
To some of you the flyers, the sunday paper inserts and the receipts that print out of grocery story catalinas are just trash, but to extreme couponers they are GOLD. Until recently, I've never used coupons I would instantly toss them out and grunt and moan if I was stuck behind the elderly at the grocery store who had a coupon for practically everything.
Now, I'm that lady at 23 years of age. I heard about the TLC's new show Extreme Couponing and thought these people are CRAZY but I was intrigued...how could it be possible to purchase nearly $300 worth of groceries with $9? I started doing my research and found its not hard at all. Everyone could do this with a little time and organization. There are coupons available for almost every product out there, the trick is to match the manufacturer coupon with the stores deal in their ad along with the stores coupon.
For example, I shop at Giant Eagle; which provides a rewards program. Giant Eagles Rewards program allows customers to upload store coupons onto the card and pair their coupon with the weekly deal along with the manufacturer deal (and for the most part any coupon under $1 is doubled!) You end up getting products for FREE! The best way to go about this is to invest in a binder with baseball card holders: Organize you coupons by products (health, beauty, canned foods, frozen etc.) Then begin the clipping! You probably get coupons in your mail that you pass up and you can buy multiple sunday papers..yes your spending almost $2 per paper, but you're receiving almost $400 worth of coupons!
If you need help finding coupons the Krazy Coupon Lady offers organization tips and print out, coupon findings and deals of the week. Check her out to learn beginner couponing instructions.
Some of you may be thinking well this is great and all for groceries, but what about retail stores? There are so many ways to save money at your favorite stores. Most stores offer rewards programs, email coupons and now if you have a smart phone there is a program called Four Square; which allows you to check into the store on your phone and receive a promotion that you show to the cashier at the point of check out. Pretty sweet huh?
So take 2-3 hours this week and beginning clipping or printing! Organize those coupons and pay attention to the Sunday ads. Let me know how much money you save!
